Timber & wood products
Valencia, Spain
“We wanted timber that could become a real, marketable product. Following In Vitro’s guidance, we grew strong trees and produced Paulownia boards for the surfboard industry.”

End use
Surfboard blanks
Result
Planted 2009, harvested 2013. Selected trees reached approximately 36 cm DBH after five years; one four-year-old tree measured approximately 42 cm at the stump. The harvested timber was processed into finished, marketed surfboard blanks.
Forestry & commercial plantations
Girona, Spain
“In Vitro supported us throughout the plantation cycle and later helped us find commercial buyers for the harvested wood.”

Cycle + offtake
Result
The plantation produced harvestable timber after approximately six years. Following the first cut, the established root systems generated vigorous regrowth, allowing a new production cycle without complete replanting.
International forestry developers
Moldova
“Our concern was whether Paulownia could perform through Moldova’s cold winters and short growing season. It developed commercially relevant logs despite the demanding climate.”

Climate
Continental, drought
Result
Approximately 50 hectares were established under continental climatic conditions. After six years the plantation produced logs measuring approximately 30 cm DBH, demonstrating the potential of Clone In Vitro 112® in colder European markets.
Climate-resilient land use
Agadir, Morocco
“The plantation experienced extreme heat, drought and periods of insufficient maintenance. While the other tested varieties failed, Paulownia Clon In Vitro 112® remained alive, giving the project an opportunity to recover.”

Outcome
Sole survivor
Result
Under severe heat and water-stress conditions near Agadir, Clone In Vitro 112® survived when every other tested Paulownia variety did not. The trial demonstrated the importance of selecting appropriate genetics for hot, dry and increasingly unpredictable climates.
Autumn-planted trees establish their roots before winter dormancy and keep developing through it — entering spring with a decisive head start. Miss the September–October window and the next stock is six months away.
Production is limited and allocated on a first-confirmed basis. If your land or supply chain depends on this season, ask now — not in October.

Founded in Barcelona in 1986. In 1990 we became the first laboratory in Spain to hold official SELECTOR certification for virus-free plant material, under the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2004 we selected Clone InVitro 112® ourselves — we do not resell third-party genetics.

A hybrid of Paulownia elongata × P. fortunei, selected in 2004 for fast growth, adaptability and superior wood quality. Rapid vertical growth, a perfectly cylindrical trunk, and premium-grade timber — while supporting reforestation, biomass and carbon projects.
Every plant is produced inside an officially registered and controlled system.
| Certification & control | What it means for your order |
|---|---|
| Official SELECTOR certification | First laboratory in Spain to hold it — Ministerial Order of 19 June 1990, BOE 11 July 1990. |
| Registered plant producer | Nursery number ES/09/08-0016 — formal identification and traceability. |

Start my schedule →Buyers compare us with P. fortunei, Phoenix 1, Nordmax, Shan Tong, Paotong Z07 and unselected root cuttings. Here is the trait-by-trait picture against an unselected species such as P. tomentosa.
| Trait | Clone In Vitro 112® | Standard (P. tomentosa) | Your advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Growth & yield | 15–20 m and 25–30 cm DBH in 6 years. 30–50 t biomass per hectare per year. | 5–7+ years for the same dimensions. Lower annual yield. | Faster ROI — shorter harvest cycles. |
| Temperature range | Selected to withstand −24 °C (with snow) to +45 °C. | Frost damage below −10 °C; heat stress above 35 °C. | Global viability — semi-arid to cold temperate. |
| Invasiveness | Non-invasive. Controlled hybrid; does not spread by seed. | Highly invasive — millions of wind-blown seeds. | Ecological safety — no risk to native ecosystems. |
| Wood density | Air-dry ≈ 231 kg/m³. | ≈ 300 kg/m³. | 20% lighter — aircraft, marine, lightweight furniture. |
| Stability | Very low shrinkage; T/R ratio of 1.6. | Higher shrinkage; tends to warp while drying. | Less sawmill waste — dries fast without cracking. |
| Coppicing | Harvestable up to 4 times from the same stump. | Stump vitality often declines after 2–3 harvests. | Lower capex — no replanting for up to 40 years. |
| Drying (biomass) | Low moisture retention; virtually no drying energy needed. | Often requires pre-drying or longer curing. | Higher net calorific value for biomass plants. |
